Planning for Holiday Tea Parties

Planning for a holiday tea party is one of those treats that I get to enjoy every year. My Christmas tea party is a tradition in my circle of friends. So let me share with you the things that I plan and how the party comes out, well...usually.

Choosing Themes for a Holiday Tea Party

You might think that Christmas is a theme all by itself. And that can be true but not necessarily. I have done themes around an Alice in Wonderland or Madhatter tea party. I've also planned what I've called a Christmas Satin & Lace tea party. There are many options to fine tune your own holiday tea party to make it more themed.

Work With Tea Party Invitations

The first thing I do each year is to go through the possible invitations for Christmas tea parties. That's where I can pick up theme ideas, decor possibilities, even menu options. Let me show you how.

Last year, I found an invitation that I just loved. The theme was something of Victorian to it's look, but it was more whimsical than formal. That gave me lots of options to get very creative in my party planning.

The invitation had a set of mismatched tea cups in one corner. Ergo, I collected up a delightful group of tea cups, one from each of my sets. Then I proceeded to mismatch all my serveware, and took up a red and white color scheme.

Since most of my tea cups were of a floral pattern, I used flower cookie cutters to make the biscuits and cookies for the menu. Of course, with a Victorian theme, I also offered traditional sweets for the tea party.

Make Sure to Plan Tea Parties Early

I always make sure to set the date for my Christmas tea party early. Then let as people as possible know, even before I send out the tea party invitations. The holidays are such a busy time for everyone that I want to make sure they reserve the date and time of my party.

Once the date is set I can order the invitations. I like to give enough time, just in case. After all, mistakes do happen and I don't want to ruin my plans because I waited until the last minute!
